Overview

Clip & Save HLS is a Chrome extension that downloads HLS / M3U8 video streams as MP4 files. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the extension processes and what it never collects.

Data we process

The extension only processes the data needed to do its one job: download the video you choose.

• M3U8 playlist URLs you select or that the extension detects on the page you are currently viewing.
• Video segments downloaded from those URLs to assemble the final MP4 file.
• License Key you paste to activate Pro, and a locally generated Device ID used to bind the license to your device.

What we never collect

• No account — the extension does not require registration or login.
• No personal information — we do not collect your name, email, or IP address through the extension.
• No analytics — the extension has no analytics, tracking, or telemetry.
• No ads — the extension shows no advertisements.
• No background data collection — nothing is sent to us when you are not actively downloading.

Where processing happens

All playlist parsing, downloading, decryption, and MP4 conversion happen locally in your browser. Video data you download is delivered directly from the video host to your device; it does not pass through our servers (we have none).

Device ID and License Key

When you activate Pro, the extension generates a Device ID locally (derived from your browser environment) and stores it, along with your License Key, in your browser's local storage. This is used solely to bind your license to your device and to verify the key's validity offline. Your License Key is signed with our private key and verified locally using a built-in public key; no server round-trip is required.

Purchases

Pro purchases are processed by our payment provider. Payment details (such as card numbers) are handled entirely by the payment provider and are never seen by us or by the extension.

Permissions

The extension requests the permissions it needs to function:

• webRequest — to detect M3U8 stream requests made by the page you are viewing.
• downloads — to save the assembled MP4 file to your computer.
• storage — to remember your download tasks and license status locally.
• offscreen — to run downloads in the background after you close the popup.

We never read or transmit your browsing history beyond the stream URLs on the page you are actively using.

Third-party services

The extension does not load third-party scripts or services. The landing page is hosted on Cloudflare Pages; see Cloudflare's privacy policy for hosting-level information.

Your data control rights

Because the Extension stores all data locally in your browser and never sends it to a server, you have full control over your data at all times. There is nothing stored on our side to request, view, correct, or delete — but here is exactly how to manage your data on your device:

• View your data: Open chrome://extensions → find "Clip & Save HLS" → click Details → View in Chrome Web Store / extension settings to see locally stored data, or inspect the download list inside the extension. All stored data (download history, license status, Device ID) lives in the browser's chrome.storage.local.
• Correct your data: Because data is generated locally and stored locally, you can change it at any time — for example by removing old download entries or re-entering your License Key. No server-side records need updating.
• Delete your data: Remove the Extension from chrome://extensions (select "Remove"), or clear it via Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → check "Site settings" and "Hosted app data". Deleting the Extension removes its locally stored data. Because we hold no copy on any server, deletion on your device is complete and immediate.
• Opt out of Pro: You may stop using Pro at any time; your License Key remains valid on your device until you delete it. No further action is required by us.

Children

This extension is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
